Hebrews

A sermon-like letter to Jewish Christians tempted to go back. It shows that Jesus is greater than angels, Moses and the priests, and that his once-for-all sacrifice fulfils the old covenant. It includes a great chapter on faith and calls readers to run with endurance.

Chapters

  1. 1Hebrews 1God spoke through the prophets, but now through his Son, the radiance of his glory, who is far greater than the angels.
  2. 2Hebrews 2Don’t drift away from so great a salvation. Jesus became fully human, made like us, to destroy death and help those being tempted.
  3. 3Hebrews 3Jesus is greater than Moses. Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.
  4. 4Hebrews 4A Sabbath rest remains for God’s people. God’s word is living and active. We have a high priest who understands our weakness, so come boldly to the throne of grace.
  5. 5Hebrews 5Jesus is a high priest in the order of Melchizedek, who learned obedience through suffering. The readers need to grow up in the faith.
  6. 6Hebrews 6Press on to maturity. God’s promise is an anchor for the soul.
  7. 7Hebrews 7Melchizedek, a priest-king, points to Jesus, a priest forever, who always lives to intercede for us.
  8. 8Hebrews 8Jesus is the mediator of a better, new covenant, as promised in Jeremiah.
  9. 9Hebrews 9The old sacrifices could not clear the conscience, but Christ entered heaven itself with his own blood, once for all.
  10. 10Hebrews 10By one sacrifice Christ has made us holy forever. Draw near to God, hold on to hope, and don’t give up meeting together.
  11. 11Hebrews 11The “hall of faith”: by faith Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Moses, Rahab and many others trusted God.
  12. 12Hebrews 12Run the race with endurance, fixing your eyes on Jesus. God disciplines those he loves. You have come to Mount Zion, the city of the living God.
  13. 13Hebrews 13Love one another, show hospitality, and be content, for God says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
